Running Season

February 10th, 2010

Tokyo Tower Course

This is the marathon season. The most popular race is the Tokyo Marathon on February 28th. However, there are road races every week during this time. Another well-known race is the 44th Ome Marathon, a 30km race that will be held just a week before on February 21st. I will run in this race, which will be my third.

The course above near Tokyo Tower and Prince Hotels is a very nice one in the heart of central Tokyo. The lengths of a couple of courses are marked. I want to thank Prince Hotel for the map.

Swagat Indian Tapas Bar - 15% Discount!

February 8th, 2010

There is a cozy, new Indian restaurant in the Roppongi area called Swagat Indian Tapas Bar Roppongi and they are offering a 15% discount on all dinner menu. Just show the coupon below on your mobile phone or print out.

I know, there are other Indian restaurants in the area. However, the unique thing about this restaurant is that it specializes in Indian food that is not served in other restaurants. Below is a description about the restaurant.

Concept:
The restaurant’s concept is to introduce the very local Indian food i.e food cooked at home or available on street carts. They have put together a good variety of snacks that go along with wine & beer. They have adjusted the quantity (Tapas like) thereby price so that one can try various varieties of food…kind of an Indian Tapas bar.

In Japan, Indian food is associated with only NAN and TANDOORI chicken whereas in India there is lot more variety ! Hence instead of NAN they have introduced Chapati, Paratha which are made from wheat flour and very healthy. Below is a photo of chapati.

chapati 300x225 Swagat Indian Tapas Bar 15% Discount!

They have also taken food from all parts of India and put together a extraordinary lineup.
For North India -they have Samosa Chat - a Tapas snack which friends when come together gulp in bunches.

For South India - they have Dosa, Wada, Utappa - very healthy and tasty.
One can distinctly see a change in taste due to variedly different spices. Photo of dosa below.

dosa 300x225 Swagat Indian Tapas Bar 15% Discount!

For East India - Panipuris or Golgappas as they are called. These are small puris filled with spicy water and the fun is to gulp one piece all in one go. One can see young kids or even biggies spilling it all over the if the puri breaks up in between.

For West India - Bhel and papdi chat .. Bhel is made from rice flakes mixed with vegetables..

The restaurant is very vegetarian friendly, but more than anything the idea is to introduce variety of Indian food to foodie lovers..

We at GMAP have been working very hard over the past few months to develop an app that people living or visiting will find very useful. It is called Go!TOKYO, which will go on sale for 350 yen. But for the holidays, the price has been reduced to 115 yen!

What makes it any different than other similar apps? For one thing, it has English speakers in mind. But it is not just a localized product. It will help you get on the train car that is nearest to your exit and/or transfer point.

February Events at the Pink Cow

February 1st, 2010
February 1, 2010toFebruary 28, 2010

One of my favorite restaurants, Pink Cow, will have many events in February. Check them out below.

Pink Cow Map

Tues., Feb. 2nd – PCC Night
Pink Cow Connections (PCC)Tokyo’s Coolest Networking Event

Pink Cow Connections (PCC) #70: ‘Make Money Online Part II’
“Using “Online S.T.O.R.M.s” - Simple To Operate Online Revenue Streams to make money online”

Please welcome speaker: James B Allen

Our presenter for February, James B Allen, has been making his living online for the past 7 years through a combination of website creation, direct response copywriting, affiliate marketing and online educational course development. James owns and manages Genki Marketing ( http://www.genkimarketing.com), an online venture incubator and new media consultancy based in Chiba, Japan.

James refers to his internet ventures as “Online S.T.O.R.M.s” - Simple To Operate Revenue Machines, and on February 2nd he will give a an overview of 3 of these:

1) Providing services to other webmasters/businesses in need of help with their online presence - such as web-design, copywriting, content creation and SEO/SEM services.

2) Creating and monetizing niche content websites.

3) Creating and marketing info-products online.

For each of these “Revenue Machines”, James will explain what they are and how they work. Also, in order to make this information as useful as possible to everyone in the audience, James will also discuss:

1. How an individual can set these up themselves to create extra income in
their spare time.

2. How each can be scaled up into larger business.

3. How people already running their own businesses can adapt these “S.T.O.R.Ms” to generate more revenue from their current products or services.

This event is a follow up on last year’s highly successful “How to Make Money Online” - Building and Monetizing a website by Honor Dargen. February’s PCC #70 will surely be in great demand, so be sure to RSVP as soon as possible to the Facebook event page or email to cowmail@thepinkcow.com, so Traci and her staff can prepare food and seating.

The PCC is a group that comes together to help us, as creative business people, help ourselves and each other. We have guest speakers, learning programs, and networking. The PCC events are designed to “bring together people building businesses” in a creative, casual atmosphere that facilitates intelligent conversation and business connections. Great food, drinks, information and people.

The cow bank is a unique project that is bringing a lot of joy to extremely poor people in Cambodia, Afghanistan and the DR Congo. HOPE supporters enable a cow to be purchased and loaned to a family for about 18 months. During that time, the family uses it to cultivate and fertilize their fields. They are also responsible to feed it and pay for the impregnation of the cow. During that time the cow gives birth and once the calf is weaned, the family pays the Cow back to HOPE and they get to keep the calf. HOPE then loans the cow to another family in need and the process is repeated. This process is repeated several times creating several happy families and cows!

On Feb 16th, we will screen “The Cove” at the Pink Cow in Shibuya. There will be a discussion afterwards.
Info about “The Cove” from www.thecovemovie.com follows:
Winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, The Cove follows a high-tech dive team on a mission to discover the truth about the international dolphin capture trade as practiced in Taiji, Japan. Utilizing state-of-the-art techniques, including hidden microphones and cameras in fake rocks, the team uncovers how this small seaside village serves as a horrifying microcosm of massive ecological crimes happening worldwide. The Cove exposes not only the tragedy of dolphin slaughtering in Japan, but also the dangerously high levels of mercury in dolphin meat and seafood, the cruelty in capturing dolphins for entertainment, and the depletion of our ocean’s fisheries by worldwide seafood consumption. We also see how the mandate of the International Whaling Commission has been manipulated by the Japanese Fisheries Agency for its benefit and its subsequent effect on the rest of the world. 500yen donation will be taken for OPS. Come early to order your food/drink(s)

The Pink Cow is about 1 1/2 blocks down on the right, directly across from Aoyama Park Tower, down a quiet street a couple of blocks. It is about 5 min. from Tower Records.
