Yes it is that time of year! Another St. Patrick’s Parade down Omotesando! The parade is held this Sunday (March 14) from 14:00 to 16:00, but the drinking starts right after breakfast and will continue at the bars after the parade!

Illumination has returned to Omotesando. After being in the dark for many years after neighbors protested the crowds and trash that the lights brought, there is light again, drawing crowds once again. However, unlike in the past, there is more competition in town, such as Roppongi Hills, Tokyo Midtown, Shinjuku South Exit, etc. Maybe that is why the lights have returned. Good for business. Yes, the current French Embassy in Hiroo will be destroyed! Actually, the embassy will be relocated next door, but in the meantime, the former offices will feature what the embassy is calling “No Man’s Land.” The area will feature rising artists from both France and Japan. Visitors are welcome! No passports needed. If you’ve never had a chance to visit the embassy, this is a good opportunity. The last day will be on January 31, 2010. Don’t miss it!

There will be workshops for children & adults, party & dance shows over the weekends. The audience will be given 3 chips to vote for their favorite artists! This new art entertainment event is presented by Giant Mango.

The audience will vote for thier favoirite artists using 3chips
(tokens) given at the entrance. The top 3 artists who have the most chips will be given cash price equivalent to the number of chips times 100yen. The total chips voted to the remaining 47 artists (number of chips times 10yen) will be donated to Japan Welfare of Children And Families Association.

Nezu Museum Reopens

The Nezu Museum, which houses the private collection of Nezu Kaichirō (1860–1940), the late president of Tobu Railway, reopened October 7th after being closed since May 2006. The museum building has gone through a renovation designed by architect Kuma Kengo.

The first exhibition is “National Treasure Nachi Waterfall and Representations of Nature,” which runs to November 8th. The museum is in the Omotesando area and includes a serene Japanese garden with a pond, along with many tea houses. Take in the tranquility of traditional Japan, right off the fashionable Omotesando area.

Museum Hours: 10:00-17:00 (last entrance 4:30)
Closed on Mondays (Except when national holiday falls on Monday. Then Tuesday is closed.), New Year’s holidays and during exhibition installations

Entrance Fees
Adult: 1000 yen (800 yen).

Tokyo Vegetarian Festival will kick off at Yoyogi Park Event Area again this year. Sponsored by the Japan Vegetarian Society, the festival will feature many vegetarian restaurants, earth-friendly shops, live bands and speakers. It has never been such a good time to be a vegetarian. Be healthy and environmentally friendly!

H&M opens its Flagship Store in Japan

H&M, Swedish clothing company, continues its expansion into Japan, planing to open its flagship store in Shibuya on September 19 (Saturday).

H&M, which opened its first shop in Japan in Ginza last September 13, 2008, has since followed with outlets in Harajuku, Yokohama and Misato (Lalaport – opened Sept 17).

I am sure there will be long lines for the opening, it being on a Saturday followed by the “Silver Week.”
