The second IKEA in Japan will open tomorrow in Yokohama. The first store opened in Funabashi earlier this year with much fanfare, but it remains to be seen if IKEA will succeed in Japan in the long term. Here is a map with directions for the Funabashi store. IKEA Funabashi
Carrefour was not much of a success story here. Its Japanese stores were bought out by Aeon last year. Costco is hanging in there with its five locations, Tamasakai (Machida), Amagasaki (Hyogo), Hisayama (Fukuoka), Makuhari (Chiba) and Kanazawa Seaside (Yokohama). And Walmart has yet to truly enter Japan. Well, let’s see if the behemoth from Sweden can make it here.
