GMAP Today: Tokyo Tower

Despite its design being based on the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Tokyo Tower (333m/1098ft) is 9 meters taller than the Eiffel, making it the world’s highest self-supporting iron tower and the tallest structure in Tokyo. Here is the location Map and the official site English page. Tokyo Tower is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers, among which the Eiffel Tower is not included. The tallest tower in the world is the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada.

The prices for admission into the main observatory deck (150m) are 820yen for adults and 460yen for those in elementary and middle schools. You can pay another 600yen for adults and 400yen for children to go up to the special deck (250m). There are discounts for set packages and for groups, as well as for small children. You can call 03-3433-5111 for information.

Personally, I think Tokyo Tower is better to look at than looking from it, saving you the cost. But I guess you can say that you’ve been to the tower.

Did you know that Tokyo Tower is owned by a private company? Many people don’t. It is owned by Nihon Denpato. An interesting fact is that the company put up the tower as collateral to pay off the debts of a former president of the company. The amount was over 10-billion yen. Here is the article.
